Frequently Asked Questions About CBT-I

If you’ve never heard of CBT-I before, or you’ve been burned by unhelpful sleep advice, you probably have questions. Below are answers to the most common things people ask before starting therapy.

  • My office is wherever you are! I provide online therapy only. This super convenient setup means no commute time and easier access to the care you need. I am able to provide services to anyone located in the states of Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Vermont, and Wisconsin.

  • CBT-I is specifically designed for people with chronic insomnia. While there are lots of sleep disorders and other issues that can cause poor sleep, this is only for those who meet the criteria for chronic insomnia. There are a few things that could make someone not a good candidate for CBT-I, which is why it is essential to book a 30 minute consultation so I can do a brief screening to make sure this is the right fit for you.

While CBT-I can be modified to use in children and teens, I personally only work with adults age 25-65.

  • Item CBT-I is a targeted, evidence-based treatment backed by decades of research. Unlike general therapy or coaching, CBT-I follows a proven clinical framework and is considered the first-line treatment for chronic insomnia by the American College of Physicians.

  • Nope! Not only is it not necessary, I actively discourage the use of these types of wearable devices during the course of treatment. They do not monitor the things we will be assessing during CBT-I, are not terribly reliable in the metrics they do track, and generally add to anxiety. So unless you strongly object, or have been asked to wear it by another provider for reasons other than sleep, I’m going to ask that we try to put that ring, watch, or whatever it is away.

  • Definitely. Many of my clients are navigating hormone-related sleep disruptions. The CBT-I process can be tailored to your specific season of life.

  • The initial 30 minute consultation is free. Following that, the full course of CBT-I is five sessions. The first session is an intake and assessment. Then there are four treatment sessions, each scheduled about two weeks apart. The price for the intake and assessment, four treatment sessions, plus access to me for support between sessions via email and Voxer, is $1000 total.

  • I do not participate as an in-network provider for any insurance plans. You are welcome to use your HSA/FSA account to cover the costs of our sessions. I am also happy to provide you with the paperwork needed to submit to your insurance company for potential out-of-network reimbursement.

  • Sessions are typically available Wednesdays and Thursdays from 8am-4:30pm Central time. I do occasionally have additional time, so please don’t hesitate to reach out and we can discuss scheduling in our consultation.

  • The first step is scheduling a 30 minute consultation.

During our consultation, I will gather some background information about what you’ve been experiencing with sleep, do a brief screening to make sure CBT-I would be a safe and effective treatment for you, and answer any questions you may have. If you decide during this time that you would like to move forward, we can schedule the intake/assessment session and the four treatment sessions then.

You can access my calendar to schedule your consultation here.
